Small or large head for your toothbrush? Hard or soft bristles? Buy a toothbrush that helps us to prevent tooth decay and other dental problems is important: discover our tips!

The choice of a toothbrush is never trivial. It can be very useful to understand what is the best toothbrush for us. For the health of our teeth, we should avoid low quality toothbrushes, just because they are the cheapest ones available on the market. In short, if we pay a bit more for a quality toothbrush with specific features, we will save money on dental care.

Thus, how do we choose a toothbrush? In reality, it doesn’t exist a toothbrush that is the best ever, because it depends on the health of our teeth, the type of mouth and teeth, the needs and tastes of each one. However, we can identify the common guidelines that allow us to select a good toothbrush based on an analysis of the two parts that make up our oral cleaning tool: the head and the handle.

The head, is the part of the toothbrush made up of bristles, should be small enough to reach all areas of the mouth (including the rear moral): the recommended measures are 2.5 cm in length and not more than 4 tufts of bristles in width . In addition, the head should be free of cracks in order to prevent bacteria that can get trapped between the bristles. Moreover, the latter should have round tips to be gentle to gums. It is also important that they are made of soft materials to be durable and resistant (although the toothbrush should be changed every three months). Koh-I-Noor is a specialized manufacturer of bathroom furniture and body care products, that include toothbrushes: the tools, that are shown in its catalogue, present all the characteristics listed above, ensuring excellent quality of manufacture.

The type of bristle is very important for the hygiene of our mouth, but the selection should be mostly based on personal characteristics. The soft toothbrushes are not particularly recommended because they are not very effective in removing plaque, but they are still indicated for those people with irritated gums, who suffer from tooth hypersensitivity or for those who have just undergone dental surgery. In addition, the soft bristles do not damage tooth enamel.

The medium bristles are those generally recommended by dentists: they easily remove plaque and food debris without being “invasive” as the hard ones, which are very durable and effective in brushing, but they increase the likelihood to irritate your gums and spoil the tooth enamel. In any case, just to meet everyone’s needs, the Koh-I-Noor toothbrushes have bristles made of six different hardnesses: very soft (MM), soft (M), medium (MD), hard (D), very hard with black boar bristles (DCN) and very hard with white boar bristles (DCB).

As regards the choice between synthetic or natural bristles, today there is a trend for the first ones, because they are eco-friendly, do not absorb water, fast dry, do not break and are uniform; however, natural bristles may be the right choice for those who are allergic to nylon or prefer really soft or hard bristles.

Koh-I-Noor offers both options, by using tyrex – top quality nylon – but also natural boar (hard bristles) or rate (very soft bristles). bristles. The peculiarity of the Koh-I-Noor toothbrushes is that natural bristles, besides their origin from animals that are reared under strict sanitary control, are also uniform and round thanks to the careful work and experience gained in over eighty years of activity.

The handle should be well manageable and moisture-resistant. On the market there are also “non-slip” handles that are made in a manner that will not slip out of hand when we brush our teeth. Most handles are made of plastic, but if we want a product that is qualitatively better and more aesthetically beautiful, we should opt for toothbrushes made of acetate of cellulose, that derives from cotton – which is also warm to the touch and self-polishing – or it is made of unbreakable polycarbonate; alternative materials can be the ABS chrome plated or the polypropylene, that are two lightweight thermoplastic polymers, which ensure a good thermal and abrasion resistance. All these materials are used by Koh-I-Noor for the manufacture of its toothbrushes.

The handle shape depends on personal preference: the Koh-I-Noor catalogue offers straight or curved handles, that can be more thicker or thinner, rectangular or traditional and they are also available in different lengths. Even the choice of the color of the toothbrush is free: for those people who are looking for a classic and elegant toothbrush, that recalls the early ‘900 retro atmospheres, the best choice might be the models of the 1930 Koh-I-Noor collection, that are available in white ivory, black or transparent. The alternative is a toothbrush of Jaspè line that shows a turtle coloring effect. If we prefer the bright colors, the Spazzolini da denti collection provides tools that include all the tonalities. The Koh-I-Noor toothbrushes are sold on its site.
